Ontario Trillium Foundation Funds Ramara Public Library
The Township of Ramara Public Library Board is pleased to announce that it was one of 214 libraries in small communities across Ontario to share $2 million of Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) grants. he funding, in the amount of $14,100, is intended for the creation of a community information portal entitled "Our Ramara - Connecting Our Community". The library, in collaboration with the Ramara Chamber of Commerce, the Township of Ramara and many other community partners, will provide residents of Ramara and beyond, with a comprehensive database all, for and about Ramara. This project will include information regarding recreation, history and culture, tourism, business, government, social services, health, and education, as well as identify all community-based organizations and associations. The library's role will be to house a new web server to host the community website and database. In addition, the library and the Chamber of Commerce will be offering Ramara's first web hosting service to local businesses, organizations and associations on a fee-for-service. Janet Banfield, Chief Executive Officer for the library, says that the database will only be a success with the assistance of the community. Every group, business and organization is encouraged to participate by providing current, detailed information. This will not only help people looking for information, but will also promote organizations by providing wider exposure. It is intended for the portal to be completed within a year. Upon completion of the website and database, information will also be available in hard copy and by phone at several locations within the Township. The goal is to provide access to Ramara information for everyone, which will help build a healthier, stronger community. The Ontario Trillium Foundation grant has provided the funding required to purchase the capital necessary for this innovative, community-based initiative!
